Happy Sweetest Day!

If you thought Valentine’s Day was a gimmick to sell more candy and paper products, you’ll cringe at this.

Today is Sweetest Day. It’s an “occasion which offers all of us an opportunity to remember … friends, relatives, and associates whose helpfulness and kindness we have enjoyed,” according to Retail Confectioners International. How much more general can one get?
Many allege that the holiday was cooked up by candy companies in Ohio.
While the holiday has been around for some 85 years, it has failed to become a widespread celebration. Sweetest Day, the third Saturday in October, is recognized mostly in the Great Lakes region from which it originated.
